Crimson Wrestlers Go 2 -1 at Armstrong Duals, Milestones Set The Crimson wrestlers had their hands full when they wrestled their first dual at Robbinsdale Armstrong this past Saturday. They drew Apple Valley, recently ranked as the #1 team in the country. The team wrestled hard and pushed many of their matches the full time period, but in the end Apple Valley won decisively, 47-7. Sophomore Jonny Dill (125#) won his match in a major decision 9-0; and senior Chad Thompson (HWT), who has stepped up to varsity to replace injured Justin Piche, came from behind to beat his #7 ranked opponent 10-9 with just seconds left in the match! In the second and third rounds of the meet, Maple Grove took care of business with wins over Goodhue (54-16) and Woodbury (54-17). Against Goodhue, Jacob Halvorson (103#), Zach Quam, (135#), Dan Rekuski (171#), Joe Borchardt (215#) and Thompson scored pins. Reid Weiland ((130#) scored a technical fall and Frank Cramer (140#) won by major decision. Zack Gawboy (112#), Dill, and Jeremy Borchardt (152#) won by decisions. Against Woodbury, Ryan O’Kane (119#), Dill, Andy Quam (130#), Weiland, Adam Whirley (145#), Jeremy Borchardt, Mike Munsen (171#), and Thompson all won by pins. Gawboy and Jacob Otterson ((189#) won by decision. Dill and Thompson each won all three of their matches at the tournament. When Dill won his second match against Goodhue, he won his 75th varsity match of his high school career, and the most career wins by a sophomore in the team’s history! Earlier this season, seniors Zach Quam (Jan 30th), Joe Borchardt (Jan 16th) and Adam Whirley (Jan 7th) won their 75th matches of their careers. These milestones place them all on the top ten all time win list for the school, and they will continue moving up. After the weekend results, the Crimson are 10-7 with four duals left to wrestle in the regular season. This Wednesday, Feb 10th, the team hosts a tri-meet with Brooklyn Center and Zimmerman. Then Thursday, Feb 11th, they host another tri-meet with conference rival Blaine, and Robbinsdale Armstrong. The meets start at 5 p.m. with 2nd and 3rd round action starting at 6:30 and 8 respectively. The Blaine meet on Thursday is designated Parent and Seniors night, and that will start at 8 p.m. Come cheer on the team as they close out their (winning) regular season! ********************************************************* Submitted by: Brad Gawboy 763-420-9747 W 952-240-1813 C Mike Dill 612-661-8126 W 612-269-0996 C mikeandshellydill@comcast.net Click Here to return to Home Page.
